While investigating how to make my photos available as downloadable wallpapers, I started to think of them more as products. This train of thought inevitably led me to e-commerce. (Sometimes thinking is a bad idea!)
Now, I am not about to start selling my old trainers or the spare tiles I have in the cellar, the real point of implementing e-commerce is to have a robust structure around which I can make my content available either for free or for a small fee. Hey, I'm an optimistic person!
In the true spirit of this website I set about diggin' up the code from an e-commerce website I built from scratch around 5 years ago. The files were dusty to say the least, but it was more than the code I was after. These files were the culmination of months of problem solving, logistical ping pong and plenty of coffee. Despite their naivety, I knew these lines of code would save me at least a month of work. How rewarding to know the time may not have been lost after all. :0)
Now I may actually have aged another year before I bring this solution to the live site (next month) so for your general amusment here is a list of the work I must undertake:
- Integrated Shopping basket based on browser cookies and PHP sessions.
- New database tables including customers, orders, products, product options etc.
- Basket and Payment receipt pages.
- Backend processing to deal with info relayed by PSP's after a payment.
- Customer receipt emails with relevant order information.
- Downloadable file linking with security to prevent piracy. Aha!
I'm gonna stop there, I'm boring myself..You get the idea!
