This train of thought inevitably led me to e-commerce. (Sometimes thinking is a bad idea!)

Now, I am not about to start selling my old trainers or the spare tiles I have in the cellar, the real point of implementing e-commerce is to have a robust structure around which I can make my content available either for free or for a small fee. Hey, I'm an optimistic person!

<![CDATA[Slowly but Surely..]]> http://www.chrismurray.me.uk/blog/slowly-but-surely Progress on the blog has been slow this week mainly due to having to earn a living!

I am currently working on the 'Scrapbook' section of the site which which will show practically anything that isn't commercial work, so uni stuff, photography, drawings etc.

The biggest problem I am facing is how to create custom pages that have their own modules. For example I want to create a 'wallpapers' page which sits within the photography category. This page will have the photos laid out so the user can just choose which one they want to download. Now this page is neither a post, a category or a project.. it is something else. I have no problem building a new type of page, what is important is that it fits the logic of the site and it has a pyhsical url. More coffee please!..

<![CDATA[Website Changes]]> http://www.chrismurray.me.uk/blog/website-changes Have made a few more transparent changes to the site.

  • Added some error checking for incorrect URL's.

I have configured the Apache mode_rewrite to forward all url's so there will never be a 404. This is what I want, but it means a little extra error checking to avoid timeouts! Now you get a little error message:

    http://www.chrismurray.me.uk/fakecategory/fakepost

The reason I haven't opted for 404 error pages is because I intend to build a 'smart' error page which will try to resolve the most probable page the user was looking for.

  • Added 'Projects' to the blog section

This is an experiment I have ported from my up and coming 'lab' section which allows posts to be grouped into a project.

Only Key updates in the project are presented in the main blog while smaller updates (like this one) are restricted to the project feed itself. The first project of course is this website.

  • RSS feed code update

I have made a few alterations to my ageing RSS script. I was going to leave the RSS feeds until a later date but I needed them to work for the projects at least. I'm sure the lack of testing will be evident as I post more items to this blog.

<![CDATA[Site Finally Online!]]> http://www.chrismurray.me.uk/blog/site-finally-online After just over a year I have finally managed to get a working version of my personal website online.

Graphically it still has some way to go but my main focus to this point has been the backend programming, navigation, structure and templates.
