Overview
When I moved to Hallmark's Bingley Road office in 2002 I was given the task of redesigning the Forever Friends website was party to some neglect. Work on this project was slightly delayed as I was set to work on the tippi website first as this range was going to print and needed a new site!
The Brief
Create a website which would bring together the Forever Friends community from around the world and raise brand awareness.
Design
The site consisted of a panel format which allowed me to add modules much like you see in modern day websites. Example modules include login, Tell A Friend, polls, wallpaper chooser etc
This site was a huge project, with no existing code or templates, I had to start completely from scratch. To save time and to ensure consistency I incorporated many functions of the tippi website I had built along with some new community features including forums and a member only mail system which allowed registered users to send private messages to each other.
Functionality of this site included :
- Diary
- Guestbook
- Forums
- Wallpapers
- eCards
- Games
- Screensavers
- Site personalisation
For this website I reskinned two games I had built for the tippi website as well as building a couple of new ones.
Screensavers
The screensavers I created were very simple and consisted of around 8 or 9 Forever Frriends images fading together using Flash. To build these into a screensaver I used a program called Mutidmedia Zinc. Once I had created the screensaver I built a custom windows installer using Nullsoft Install software. This gave the screensaver a nice user friendly install and and also allowed the user to accept the terms and conditions.
